Introduction:VL6180 is a time-of-flight ranging sensor. The sensor contains a small laser source and a matching sensor. VL6180X can detect the "time of flight", or the time required for the laser to recover the sensor to calculate the distance. Unlike most distance sensors that rely on the intensity of reflected light or the angle of reflection to determine the distance, the VL6180 uses an accurate clock to measure the time it takes for light to bounce off the surface. Because it uses a very narrow light source, this is different from ultrasonic sonar.Unlike traditional infrared distance sensors, since there is no linearity problem or "double imaging", you cannot judge how close the object is. Therefore, the accuracy of the VL6180X is higher. The VL6180 module is recommended to handle distances from 5mm to 100mm. Due to the small size of the sensor module, it is easy to use in any robot or interactive project. You can use it with any 3-5V power supply or logic microcontroller.

1.The integrated intelligent optical module can be used for proximity sensing, ranging and other functions;
2.Fast and accurate distance measurement. Measure the absolute range from 0 to more than 100mm. Based on the spontaneous beam reflection measurement independent of the object, the measurement range of more than 100 mm can be used under some extremely ideal target reflectivity and environment, but it is not guaranteed;
3.I2C interface for device control and data, two programmable GPIOs.

Power supply pin:
Vin-This is the power input pin. Voltage input range 3-5V; 2v8-This is the output port, the output voltage is 2.8V, the 2.8V output voltage generated by the on-board voltage regulator after processing the input voltage of VIN, which is convenient for expansion; GND-the ground of the power supply;
I2C communication pins:
SCL-I2C clock pin, connected to the master SCL; SDA-I2C data pin, connected to the main control SDA;
Control pin: GPIO-The pin used by the sensor to indicate that the data is ready. Note that this pin outputs a high and low level of 0-2.8V. This pin may not be applied to boards such as Arduino (the high level of these boards is 3.3 or 5V. ), generally not used, level conversion is required for application. SHDN-The shutdown pin of the sensor. By default, it is pulled high. There is a level shifting diode, so you can use 3-5V logic on this pin. When the pin is pulled low, the sensor enters shutdown mode.
